Christopher Cox, son of Solomon Cox and Naomi "Amy" Hussey Cox,
was born in 1773 in Virginia, according to "The Kemps" written by Elizabeth
Ann Cox Helms. He was mentioned in a certificate in 1781 prior to
a move to New Garden Monthly Meeting by his family.
He was married about 1794 to Lydia Carter, according to the research of Mary Alnora "Nora" Cox Drennan. He was later remarried to Hannah Johnson. A Christopher Cox, probably appeared in the 1800 tax list of Knox County, Kentucky. A Christopher Cox, possibly, appeared in the 1806 tax list of Jefferson County, Ohio, on the Pennsylvania border, according to "Early Ohio TaxRecords." He reappeared in the 1810 tax list there living in Wayne township.
He was mentioned in his father's will written in 1819 in Hocking County, Ohio. In 1820 he and William Wilkinson were shown to be indebted to his father's estate, suggesting that he was a resident of Hocking County at that time.
He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1830 census of Monroe County, Indiana, page 169.

Children born to Christopher Cox and Lydia Carter Cox are unknown. Children born to Christopher Cox and Hannah Johnson Cox are believed to include:
Cornelius "Neely" Cox born about 1800
William Cox born January 2, 1803
Delilah Cox born in 1804
Cornelius "Neely" Cox, son of Christopher Cox and Hannah Johnson Cox was born about 1800, probably in Knox County, Kentucky. He became engaged to marry Catherine "Katie" Jackson about 1819. When the day of the wedding arrived the bride, although pregnant, saddled a horse and rode away, according to Elizabeth Ann Cox Helms. She related:
"Katie had Andy before she and Cornelius were married. She was engaged to be married. All preparations for the wedding were made, but when the time came she got on her horse and rode away, saying 'I fooled the fellow.' Cornelius, perhaps the father, left and was gone for about two years. During this time Andy was born. She named him Andy Cornelius Cox. When Cornelius returned a wedding soon took place. She vowed to make him a good wife, and she did. When Cornelius and Katie married, his folks refused to associate with her. In January 1824, when she was delivering twins, Cornelius went to his mother and asked for help. She went with him, riding behind him on his horse. Twins were delivered. The little boy died, but she gave the little girl Hannah her own name and placed a string of beads around her neck. Katie never tried to conceal these facts from her children, but talked openly about them with her children and grandchildren."
Cornelius "Neely" Cox was married April 1, 1824 to Catherine Jackson in Bloomington, Indiana, according to Monroe County, Indiana Marriage Book A, pages 30-31. The license was issued March 31, 1824. She was born in 1801 in Kentucky.
Jehu Cox, Mormon son of Thomas Isaac Cox [brother of Christopher Cox, wrote in his journal sometime after 1877:
"Here are some of my cousins, I want work done for them: James Johnson, Alfred Johnson, Sadie Johnson (her work is done), Carnils Cox [Cornelius "Neely" Cox] and Katy Jackson [Catherine Jackson Cox], William Cox and his wife Lottie Jackson, John King and Delila Cox, his wife. These were all born in the United States, some older than I am [born September 5, 1803, Knox County, Kentucky] and some four years younger. The youngest is 84 now."
Jehu Cox died December 26, 1893 at age 90. Since Jehu Cox mentioned the three Cox cousins in tandem, it is suggested that they had a common parentage. Additionally, descendants of Nathan Cox, another son of Thomas Isaac Cox, stated that his "cousin, Delila Cox, was married to John King."
Cornelius "Neely" Cox was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1830 census of Monroe County, page 169, nearby to his father's household. The family was recorded as:
Cox,Cornelius white male 20-30
white female 20-30
white male 5-10
white female 0-5
white male 0-5
white female 0-5"
Eight children were born to them while in Indiana before they moved to Missouri. It is believed that Cornelius "Neely" Cox removed to Dallas County in a Texas-bound wagontrain about 1844. It is believed that the wagontrain included his sister Delilah Cox King and her husband and family.
He appeared in a list of residents who voted in an election held in Dallas County in 1845. He purchased a polltax there in 1847.
Seymore V. Conner in "The Peters Colony of Texas" writes, "Cornelius Cox migrated to the Colony as a family man prior to 1 July 1845 and settled on a company survey in present Dallas County. He was issued Nacogdoches Third Class Certificate No. 2149 for 610 acres, which he patented in Dallas County."
He appeared as the head of Household No. 211-216 in the 1850 census of Dallas County, page 28. The family was listed as:
"Cox,Cornelius 50, born in Kentucky, farmer,
$800 real estate

He appeared as the head of Household No. 507-507 in the 1850 census
of Smith County, Texas, page 71:

Cornelius 2/12"
"A. J. Cox" sold 610 acres in the Cornelius Cox Survey to H. C. Thompson August 24, 1860, according to Dallas County Deed Book H, page 418. This was done apparently in preparation for a move to Comanche County, Texas.
It is believed that both Andrew J. Cox and Arena Ratliff Cox died about 1861 because their children were "raised by Uncle Jess Johnson, a Methodist minister and his wife, Adeline," according to "Cornelius Cox and Catherine Jackson, Their Descendants" by Bettye Ruth Cox Wallace, a descendant. Henryetta Kidd, a descendant wrote in 1979, "In the 1870 census of Comanche County the Coxes, Savages, Pettits and Johnsons can all be found living next to each other. Several of Susan Adaline Savage Cox's sisters are living with the Johnson family and are listed as "adopted." William Cox and Susan Savage Cox are my maternal grandmother's parents."
Henryetta Kidd writes of a tombstone she found in Whitney Cemetery, located eight miles southeast of Comanche, with the inscription, "Andy Cox, 1822-1887." Andrew J. Cox died October 15, 1885 at the home of his daughter Catherine Cox Pettit, according to Marie Stewart.

Robert A. Drennan moved his family to Fisher County, Texas about 1898, settling two miles north of McCauley, Texas. In March 1916 they began a move to Weed, New Mexico to homestead land there, along with their three eldest children and their families, 26 members in all. On the fourth day of the move their six-wagon train pulled into Lamesa, Texas where a Mr. Coffee attempted to sell them two sections of land located four miles south of Lamesa (in a present-day oilfield) for $2.34 per acre, according to Mary Alnora "Nora" Cox Drennan.
When the group reached Artesia, New Mexico they rented a two-story 11-room house, and the entire party settled in to await the melt-down of the snow remaining on McDonald Flat. About July 1 a scouting trip reported their mountain home now accessible. The men of the party filed on seven adjoining quarter-sections of land and built homes from lumber obtained at nearby Courtney sawmill. Simultaneously filing on 160-acre neighboring tracts were James Madison Cox, Willie Elmer Cox and Claud Franklin Gowen. Unknown to the settlers at that time was the fact that the two groups were cousins, having a common Cox ancestry.
Margaret C. Cox Drennan died December 12, 1918 at Weed and was buried there in Watts Cemetery. This cemetery has subsequently become obliterated by flash floods. Robert A. Drennan died in McCauley, Texas February 10, 1931.
