BARBOUR COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Mrs. Catherine McCall was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1850 census of Barbour County, page 167.  She was "received as a member 3rd Sabbath in May 1855," ac­cording to records of Pea Ridge Presbyterian Church in Barbour County.  The congrega­tion was composed largely of natives of North Carolina.

The first marriage recorded in Barbour County was in 1822 when Daniel McCall was mar­ried to Mary McDaniel, according to "Alabama Marriages" by Helen S. Foley.  Daniel Mc­Call appeared as the head of a household in the 1850 census of Barbour County, page 139.  Daniel McCall and Mary McDaniel McCall were the parents of Hart McCall, Barbour County Tax Collector, who was born about 1825.  Another child born to them was John Wesley McCall who was born May 10, 1832.  He was a member of a military unit, the "Louisville Blues."  When he died December 15, 1859 he was buried with military hon­ors.

James A. L. McCall, a member of Mineral Springs Presbyterian Church transferred his membership in October 1858 to Pea Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Mary Carolina McCall was a member of the Pea Ridge Presbyterian Church in Barbour County in December 1866.

Paul McCall was born about 1818.  He was married about 1852 to Mary Baxter, daughter of James Baxter and Mary Baxter, who was born January 7, 1821 in South Carolina.  The Baxters first settled in Lowndes County where the daughter joined the Methodist Epis­copal Church.  Later they removed to Greene County, Alabama.  Following the death of James Baxter they removed to Barbour County in 1851.  Paul McCall in 1854 was a member of Pea Ridge Presbyterian Church, a congregation composed primarily of natives of North Carolina.  Sidenham W. McCall, son of Paul McCall and Mary Baxter McCall, died near Pea Ridge, Alabama June 25, 1854.  Mrs. Mary McCall, "consort of Paul McCall," died January 3, 1855 at the age of 33 years, 11 months and 27 days.

 

CLARKE COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Jacob McCall was listed September 1, 1852 in Clarke County records as the father of Avis C. McCall and William F. McCall, "poor children between 8 and 16 unable to obtain education without public assistance."

HALE COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Robert S. McCall was born at Greensboro, Alabama in 1814.  He was married about 1840 to Sarah Briton.  "In 1878 Robert S. McCall with his son, William Alexander McCall and his grandson Robert Lee McCall journeyed from Mississippi by covered wagon to Robert­son County, Texas," wrote Cora Lee McCall Jones in a history of the family that she prepared.  Robert S. McCall died at Bremond, Texas in 1917.

William Alexander McCall, son of Robert S. McCall and Sarah Briton McCall was born about 1842.  He was married about 1866 to Elizabeth Locke Hardy who was born in Eldo­rado, Arkansas in 1849.  He accompanied his father in moving to Robertson County in 1878.  Elizabeth Locke Hardy McCall died in Bremond in 1932.

Robert Lee McCall, son of William Alexander McCall and Elizabeth Locke Hardy McCall, was born in 1868.  He was married about 1885 to Hallie Hayes White.  He operated a general store in the Hammond community of Robertson County for 50 years.  He died there in 1949.

Mrs. C. W. Gound, a descendant of William Alexander McCall, in 1972 lived at 4220 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas.

M. M. McCall and wife, Mary Fairbanks Heggins McCall of Lee County gave a deed to B. D. Orgain February 14, 1901 to 320 acres "patented to J. C. Heggins May 7, 1848 and set aside to Mary F. Heggins in the partition of the estate of J. C. Heggins in Bas­trop County, Texas, Book G, page 511, for $5,000, according to Williamson County, Texas Deed Book 94, page 261.

John McCall was born in 1753 and served as a private and a sergeant in the North Car­olina Continental Line in the Revolutionary War.  On January 5, 1833, at age 70, while a resident of Limestone County he applied for a pension.  He received an annual al­lowance of $20.  He received "at least $60," according "Revolutionary Pension Roll," Volume 14.  He was listed as a Revolutionary sol­dier in "Revolutionary Soldiers in Al­abama" by Elizabeth Wood Thomas.

Tristram Bethea McCall appeared as the head of a household in the 1850 census of Lown­des County, page 167.  He was married May 28, 1856 to Charlotte A. Cook, according to Lowndes County marriage records.  Children born to Tristram Bethea McCall and Char­lotte A. Cook McCall are unknown.

 

MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

John McCall was married June 4, 1815 to Nancy Clements, according to Madison County marriage records.  Of John McCall and Nancy Clements McCall nothing more is known.

 

MONROE COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Moses E. McCall was born about 1830, probably in Monroe County where he was a resident in 1843.  He was married October 20, 1853 at Brooklyn, Alabama to Lucy W. Bouldware, according to her application for a Confederate widow's pension.  She stated that she was born October 21, 1833 and had lived in Texas since before 1880.  Lt. Moses E. Mc­Call served in Company H, Twenty-third Alabama Infantry Regiment for three years, ac­cording to an affidavit prepared by I. F. Andrus of Polk County, Texas July 11, 1903 who reported him to be "a good soldier, never deserted."  Andrus, at age 72, stated that he first met Moses E. McCall "as a boy, say about 1843," in Monroe County and that they removed to Texas about 1877.  Moses E. McCall died in Texas January 10, 1894.

 

The application of Lucy W. Bouldware McCall, in which she stated that she had lived in Angelina County, Texas for four months, was approved at Lufkin, Texas August 14, 1903, and she received a $22 monthly pension until her death December 1, 1918 at age 84.  She died of pneumonia in Hotel Dieu, a Catholic hospital in Beaumont, Texas and was buried in Jefferson County, Texas in Magnolia Cemetery.  Apparently the couple had no children.  Her three living brothers [of five] of Monroe County authorized Broussard, Taylor & Davant Funeral Home of Beaumont to receive her $22 pension check and $30 Con­federate burial fee.  Gillchrist R. Bouldware, 77, of Monroe County, assigned his rights in the proceeds to the funeral home December 8, 1918.

Samuel McCall of Monroe County, Alabama Territory gave power of attorney to Duncan McLaurin of Marlboro District, South Carolina.  He sold 65 acres on Beaverdam Creek there June 19, 1818, according to Marlboro Deed Book K, page 61.

 

PIKE COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Daniel A. McCall was married in 1846 to Serena M. Dennis who was born in 1828.  Chil­dren born to Daniel A. McCall and Serena M. Dennis McCall are unknown.

 

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

Pinkney L. McCall, a native of Virginia, and his wife Mary Carson McCall were resi­dents of Lincoln, Alabama in 1866.  He was a schoolteacher in Alabama for 40 years which included a five-year tenure as principal of McCall's Institute at Hopes Bluff, Alabama.

 

Lealis L. McCall, son of Pinkney L. McCall and Mary Carson McCall, was born September 15, 1866 in Lincoln.  He was married in 1888 to Sally Crump, daughter of Silas Crump of St. Clair County.  Lealis L. McCall was a farmer, teacher and the oper­ator of a general store at Ragland, Alabama where he was the postmaster in 1901.  Children born to Lealis L. McCall and Sally Crump McCall are unknown.

 

WILCOX COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

William McCall, infant son of James P. McCall and Belle Davis McCall died at Yellow Bluff, Alabama in Wilcox County December 21, 1881 of pneumonia at the age of "6 months, 17 days," according to "Family Trails."

McCall, unmarried, gave a warranty deed to a lot in Sharp's Addition, Jonesboro, Arkansas August 18, 1894 to Mary J. Mc­Call for $50, according to Deed Book 15, page 64.  On February 20, 1895 "Mary J. Mc­Call, unmarried" gave a warranty deed to him for $500, according to Deed Book 14, page 292.  He received a warranty deed March 22, 1895 from Maggie O. McHose for $100, ac­cording to Deed Book 14, page 275.  He gave a deed to Mary J. McCall January 28, 1896 for $50, according to Craighead County Deed Book 15, page 64.

McCall.  They had 12 children and lived at West Prairie," according to "History of Craighead County, Arkan­sas."  "Children born to them include Amanda McCall, Elizabeth McCall and William F. McCall."

 

Mary Jane Mattix Snoddy McCall received a deed from the State of Arkansas July 21, 1875 to 40 acres in township 13N, range 2E for "paying taxes," according to Deed Book 8, page 284.  She received a warranty deed August 6, 1879 from Thomas Blake and his wife Jane Blake and Nick Southerland and his wife Mary Southerland for $500, according to Craighead County Deed Book 8, page 287.

 

Nicholas R. McCall received a warranty deed from the State of Arkansas March 6, 1877 to 120 acres donation land in township 13N, range 2E "by agreeing to pay taxes," ac­cording to Deed Book 8, page 285.  He gave a quit claim deed to Thomas D. Culberhouse January 4, 1879 to the northeast quarter of section 24, township 14N, range 3E for $800, according to Deed Book 15, page 585.  On July 19, 1888 he and his wife, Mary Jane Mattix Snoddy McCall sold 320 acres, "the wife's land" to Frank Williams for $1,500, according to Deed Book 11, page 16.  On May 24, 1889 they deeded 106 acres which she had "re­ceived from Frank Williams July 18, 1888" to Thomas D. Culberhouse for $1,500, accord­ing to Deed Book 7, page 362.

 

Nicholas R. McCall and Mary Jane Mattix Snoddy McCall gave a deed to 106 acres to Thomas D. Culber­house for $1,500, according to Craighead County Deed Book 7, page 362.  She had re­ceived the property July 18, 1888 from Frank Williams.

 

"M. J. McCall" received a tax deed from J. H. Mangum March 6, 1890 upon payment of $5.25 in back taxes due on 40 acres in township 13, range 3, according to Craighead County Deed Book 8, page 329.

Hugh McCall "of Sevier County, Arkansas" sold 160 acres in Hopkins County, Texas which had been granted to him by the State of Texas as a settler.  The deed was dated July 9, 1860, according to Hopkins County deed records.

 

UNION COUNTY, ARKANSAS====

 

Dr. William H. McCall, son of Malcomb McCall and Lydia John McCall, was born May 28, 1843 in South Carolina, according to "History of Yell County, Arkansas" by Wayne Banks.   His maternal grandfather was Daniel John.  He was brought to Mt. Holly, Ar­kansas in Union County by his parents in 1860.  In 1861 he taught school for $40 per month, a pursuit he followed for three years.  His father died there in 1864, and he gave up teaching to operate the family farm.  After hours he began the study of medi­cine.  In 1867 he became a clerk in C. L. McCall & Company, a general store of Mt. Holly.  Shortly after he went to Memphis and enrolled for medical training.  He was married July 27, 1876 to Mary C. McRae, a native of North Carolina.  He continued to farm and to practice medicine, and in 1882 went into a partnership with J. H. Waldron in the operation of a cottongin and a gristmill.  Children born to Dr. William H. Mc­Call and Mary C. McRae McCall are unknown.
