Mary McCall was enumerated as
the head of a household in the 1820 census of Wayne County:
"McColl, Mary
white female over 45
white female 16-26
white female 10-16"
Since a "white female over
60" appeared in the 1830 enumeration of Duncan McCall's household, Mary
McCall is suggested as the mother of:
Duncan McCall born in 1779
Duncan McCall, believed to be a
son of Mary McCall was born in 1779, according to the family bible record. It is believed that he was married about
1812, wife's name Nancy who was born in 1790, according to her 1850 census
enumeration. In 1812 he appeared as a
landowner in the Chickasawhay Purchase area, paying a tax on "1 white
poll, 1 slave, $1.75 territory tax and a county tax of 87®Þ," according to
the research of Robert P. Woodward, a descendant of Memphis, Tennessee.
He reappeared in the 1813 tax
roll of Wayne County, Mississippi Territory, paying tax on "1 white poll,
1 slave, $1.16 territory tax and a county tax of 58®Þ." He paid the said amounts in 1814.
He apparently served in the
Mississippi militia in the War of 1812 and probably participated in the Battle
of New Orleans in January 1815. He
appeared as the head of a household in the 1816 Territorial Census of Wayne
County as:
"McCall, Duncan
white male over 21
white female over 21
white male under 21
white female under 21

white male under 21"
Also enumerated in the 1816
census in Wayne County was Daniel McCall, thought to be the father of Hugh Jed
McCall, living alone.
The 1817 tax roll of Wayne
County lists Duncan McCall as paying tax on "1 white poll, 1 slave and
1.12® on real estate."
Duncan McCall reappeared in the
1819 taxpayers list, paying taxes on "1 white poll, 1 slave and an
advalorem tax of $2. Thomas McCall,
unidentified, was also a taxpayer there in 1819. He paid a tax on "1 white poll and $1.00 advalorem

He was received into the
Philadelphius Presbyterian Church August 12, 1827, according to the church

Duncan McCall was enumerated as
the head of a household in the 1830 federal census of Wayne County:
"McCall, Duncan

white female over

Duncan McCall reappeared as the
head of a household in the 1840 federal census of Wayne County, page 242. This enumeration showed him to be a military
pensioner:
"McCall, Duncan

white male 30-40

Homer Gene McCall, a

may have been filed by Duncan McCall about that time:

Duncan McCall was listed as the
head of a household composed of "5 males and 2 females" in the 1841
state census. His household was
recorded in the 1845 state census of Wayne County as "4 males, 2
females."
Duncan McCall "departed

family bible of his son, Daniel Claudius McCall. His death was also recorded in the minutes of the Philadelphius
Presbyterian Church of Wayne County which have been deposited with The

His slaves were partitioned to
his heirs on August 12, 1846, according to probate records discovered by Homer
