Daniel McCall, possibly a relative of Dr. Matthew Morgan McCall
(M5/1.1), was a resident of Red River County in 1842, according to
"History of Titus County, Texas" by W. M. Morrison. He received a land grant there of 20 labores
issued by the District Court of Harrison County, Texas. His survey lay on Hart's Creek, a short
distance from present day Mt. Pleasant, county seat of Titus County which was
formed from Red River County in 1846.
He was a surveyor and laid out the town of Mt. Pleasant. He was the first postmaster there, receiving
his appointment in June 1847 and holding the office until September 13, 1847.
He did the surveying for Paschal County, Texas which existed
briefly during the years 1841 and 1842.
The towns of Blossom Prairie and Daingerfield were originally located in
Paschal County. An unclaimed letter for
Daniel McCall was being held in the post office at Clarksville April 27, 1848.
