Samuel Whitmire, son of Michael Whitmire and Catherine Whitmire, was born about 1770 in Pendleton District.  He was married about 1793 to Polly Holcomb.  [Haskell Pruett states in "The Families of the Sons of Christopher Columbus Whitmire" that Samuel Whitmire was married to Fannie I Dean and that they were the parents of Samuel McDonald Whitmire.]  He appeared as the head of Household 770 in the 1800 census of that district:

He was a witness February 12, 1801 to a deed of Stephen Whitmire and Mary Porter Whitmire that conveyed 204 1/2 acres in two plots to William Robbins, according to Pendleton District Deed Book H, page 508.  The property was located on the "north fork of Cain Creek of the Keowee" and adjoined the property of Samuel Whitmire.

 

On August 25, 1802 he witnessed a deed of Stephen Whitmire which conveyed 158 acres "on the North fork of the Keowee" to their brother Christoher Whitmire,  according to Oconee County Deed Book 9, pge 672.

 

Samuel Whitmire reappeared as the head of a household in the 1820 census of Pendleton District, page 86.

 

The family was reported as:

He appeared as the head of a household in the 1830 census of Jackson County, Georgia, page 316:

He apparently removed from Jackson County in 1840.  He was enumerated there in the 1840 census and also in Pickens County, South Carolina.  He appeared as the head of a household in the 1850 census of Rabun County, Georgia.

 

Fourteen children were born to Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire beteen 1794 and 1822.  Included were:

Christopher Whitmire, son of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born in 1796.  He was married about 1816 to Nancy Reece.

 

A Christopher Whitmire, possibly, received a deed to 300 acres in Pendleton District in 1817.  The deed read:

 

"KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS THAT I, John Prince, Junr. in the State and Dist. aforesaid in consideration of the just sum of Two Hundred dollars to me paid by Chistopher Whitmire of Pendleton Dist. have granted, bargained, sold and released unto the said Whitmire all that tract of land lying and being in said State on the waters of Toona River, beginning . . . containing 300 acres more or less.

Christopher Whitmire, was an early settler in Forsyth County, Georgia which was established in 1832 from Cherokee County, according to "They were here."

 

He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1850 census of Forsyth County, 31st District, page 229:

Children born to Christopher Whitmire and Nancy Reece Whitmire include:

Eliza A. Whitmire, daughter of Christopher Whitmire and Nancy

Reece Whitmire, was born May 21, 1826, according to "The Wallis-Wallace Family of Forsyth County, Georgia" written by Joy L. Clark of Cumming, Georgia.  She was married about 1843 to Jesse Wallise, fifth child of William Wallis and Anna Wallis.  The Wallis family was enumerated in the 1830 and 1840 census enumerations of Forsyth County.  They were members of the Hopewell Methodist Church there.  Jesse Wallise, who became a drygoods merchants, was born March 5, 1826.  He died April 13, 1896, and she died May 6, 1908.  They were buried in Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery.

William Christopher Wallise, son of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born about 1844.  He died unmarried May 16, 1863 at Baker's Creek, Mississippi, a Confederate casualty.

 

John Wallise, son of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born in November 1845 in Forsyth County.  He was married there December 25, 1864 to Minerva Martin.  He died January 25, 1893 and was buried in Rocky Creek Cemetery, Walker County, Georgia.  Nine children were born to them, according to Clark research.

 

Melinda Jane Wallise, daughter of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born August 11, 1848 in Forsyth County.  She was married about 1866 to Lester Striplin.  She died in 1901 and was buried in Alta Vista Cemetery in adjoining Hall County.

 

George Lewis "Buck" Wallise, son of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born February 20, 1850 in Forsyth County.  He was married December 17, 1872 in Dawson County, Georgia to Margaret Elliott Maylock.  In 1880 they were enumerated in the Coal Mountain District of Forsyth County with five children.  He died February 23, 1921 in Aledo, Texas, according to Clark research.

 

David Reeves Wallis, son of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallis, was born September 17, 1853 in Forsyth County.

He was married about 1870 to Martha Anmn Turner, daughter of Lemuel West Turner and Susannah A. "Susie" Hubbard Turner who was born April 10, 1948.

 

He died November 30, 1920, and she died December 25, 1928.  They were buried in Crossroads Baptist Church.

Ophelia "Ada" Wallis, daughter of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born June 22, 1872.  She was married January 11, 1894 in Dawson County, Georgia to Charles Irby Slaton.  She died August 23, 1954 in Texas.

Leila Octavia Wallis, daughter of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born July 17, 1873.  She was married September 22, 1891 in Dawson County to Benjamin Martin Anderson.  He died in 1954, and she died December 25, 1955.  They were buried in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Forsyth County.

James Alonzo "Lon" Wallace, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born November 22, 1874.  He was married January 6, 1895 to N. Florence Clark, daughter of Minor Clinton Clark and Nancy E. Hope Clark, accordijng to Clark research.  She was born June 1, 1872 in Dawson County and died April 27, 1955.  He died October 2, 1956.  They were buried in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Forsyth County.

Eula Maggie Wallis, daughter of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born May 18, 1876.  She was married January 21, 1894 to Alvin Andrew Clark who was born September 25, 1871 in Dawson County.  She died May 30, 1953 and was buried in Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery in Forsyth County.  He died July 31, 1962 and was buried beside his wife.

Charles Monroe Wallis, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born December 15, 1877.  He was married July 25, 1897 in Dawson County to Margaret "Maggie" Howard, daughter of Abram Howard and Sarah Stancil Howard.  She was born February 10, 1877.  He died January 26, 1939, and she died March 26, 1958.  They were buried in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Claude Wallace, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born November 27, 1884.  He died unmarried November 31, 1964 and was buried in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Forsyth County.

 

Jesse E. Wallis, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born September 15, 1885 and died December 9, 1885.  He was buried in Crossroad Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Flora "Flo" Wallis, daughter of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born in October 1886.  She was married August 18, 1907 to Joseph Elliott.  She was buried at Westview Cemetery.

 

One son was born to them:

William Lee Wallace, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born November 7, 1888.  He was married December 11, 1911 to Ollie Pirkle, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Pirkle and Ruth "Sissy" Bannister Pirkle.  She was born December 4, 1895.  She died August 20, 1933, and he died September 26, 1937.  They were buried at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Henry David "Dave" Wallace, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born January 29, 1892.  He died unmarried September 2, 1951 and was buried in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Ezra Clinton Wallace, son of David Reeves Wallis and Martha Ann Turner Wallis, was born November 12, 1894.  He was married about 1914 to Altie Mahulda Corn daughter of Luther Corn and Carolina Grogan Corn.  She was born July 22, 1897.  He died March 21, 1960, and she died December 17, 1973.  They were buried in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sarah "Carrie" Wallise, daughter of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born August 9, 1859 in Forsyth County.  She was married there January 31, 1878 to Monroe Bennet, son of Berry Bennett and Emilie A. Martin Bennett .  She died in 1943 and was buried in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.  Four children were born to them.

 

Martha Evaline "Eva" Wallise, daughter of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born March 31, 1861 in Forsyth County.  She was married there February 22, 1877 to Henry A. Dooley, son of Wesley S. Dooley and Cleopatra Missouri Catheirne Phillips Dooley.  She died there April 18, 1892 and was buried in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.  After her death Henry A. Dooley and the children removed to Bartow County, Georgia to be near his aging parents.   He died November 3, 1937 and was buried in Gums Springs Cemetery.

 

Jesse Harrison Wallace, son of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born March 1, 1863 in Forsyth County.  He was married there July 31, 1884 to Isabell Hughes.  He died April 16, 1907 in Aledo, Texas.

 

Nancy Ann "Nan" Wallise, daughter of Jesse Wallise and Eliza A. Whitmire Wallise, was born May 1, 1868 in Forsyth County.  She was married there February 8, 1881 to James Andrew Jackson.  She died March 7, 1950 in Hall County.

 

Emily Whitmire, daughter of Christopher Whitmire and Nancy Reece Whitmire, was born about 1837 in Georgia.  She appeared as a 13-year-old in the 1850 census of Forsyth County.  She was married about 1860 to James H. Henderson, according to Forsyth County marriage records.

 

William R. Whitmire, son of Christopher Whitmire and Nancy Reece Whitmire, was born about 1839.  He appeared in the 1850 cenus of Forsyth County as a 13-year-old living in his father's household.  Of this individual nothing more is known.

 

Cintha Whitmire, daughter of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born about 1795.

 

Alpha Whitmire, son of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born about 1797.  "A. P. Whitmire," possibly, was enumerated in the 1850 census of Forsyth County as the head of Household 1263-1263, 31st District, page 196:

 

        "Whitmire, A. P.        45, born in North Carolina

                       Elizabeth    50, born in South Carolina"

 

Stephen Whitmire, son of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmir, was born August 25, 1799 in Pendleton District.  He was married about 1820 to Mary Robertson who was born in 1802 in Oconee County.

 

He appeared as the head of a household in the 1840 census of Rabun County, Georgia, and he was enumerated September 26, 1850 as the head of a household in Rabun County, 597th District, Houshold 160-160:

 

        "Whitmire, Stephen                     52, born in South Carolina

                           Mary                       48, born in South Carolina, wife

                           Robert[son?] R.      19, born in South Carolina, son, married

                                                                within the year

They reappeared as Household 26-26 at Clayton, Georgia in the 1860 census of Rabun County, 597th District:

He wrote his will in Rabun County in 1866.

 

Following her death about 1862 he was remarried to Patsy Mary Cobb who was born February 18, 1802 in South Carolina.  They lived in Oconee County, South Carolina.  He was buried in Clayton, Georgia Baptist Church Cemetery.  No children were born to Patsy Mary Cobb Whitmire who was born in 1802.

William R[obertson?] "Billy" Whitmire, son of Stephen Whitmire and Mary Robertson Whitmire, was born October 30, 1822 in South Carolina, probably in Oconee County.  He moved to Rabun County, Georgia and built a log cabin on his land one mile north of Clayton.   He was married in 1845 to Hannah McCurry who was born December 23, 1827 in North Carolina to Amos McCurry and Rachel McCurry.  Hannah McCurry Whitmire died July 27, 1898, and William R. "Billy" Whitmire died February 5, 1904 in Clayton, Georgia.  They were buried in the Baptist Church Cemetery there.

Sarah Whitmire, daughter of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born May 27, 1845 at Clayton, Georgia.  She was married in 1863 to John M. Burton, son of Jeremiah Burton, who was born in 1845.  He died February 13, 1922, and she died May 30, 1924.  They were buried in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

John Columbus Whitmire, son of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born January 26, 1847 in Clayton.  He removed to Macon County, South Carolina where he was married August 1, 1867 to Jane Elizabeth Williams who was born there July 26, 1849.  They returned to Rabun County, Georgia in 1884.  She died there December 17, 1922, and he died in Walhalla, South Carolina August 6, 1929.

Sylvester "Ves" Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born July 5, 1870 in Rabun County.  He was married February 21, 1895 to Delia Thompson and was remarried to Mary Pitts.  He was killed by a bootlegger whom he surprised transporting whiskey in Rabun County.  Children born to Sylvester "Ves" Whitmire, Delia Thompson Whitmire and Mary Pitts Whitmire are unknown.

 

Jacob B. Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born November 3, 1871 in Macon County.  He was married to Jane Garland of North Carolina about 1905.  Children born to Jacob B. Whitmire and Jane Garland Whitmire are unknown.

 

Lewis C. Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born August 19, 1873 in Macon County.  He was married about 1895 to Mary Page.  Later he was remarried to Minnie Wells of Cornelia, Georgia.  Children born to Lewis C. Whitmire, Mary Page Whitmire and Minnie Wells Whitmire are unknown.

 

Lydia Whitmire, daughter of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born March 12, 1876 in Macon County.  She was married to Jonas Burrell of Towns County, Georgia March 1, 1896.  She died October 25, 1965.

 

Pollie E. Whitmire, daughter of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born April 1, 1878 in Macon County.  She was married February 18, 1897 to John M. Carter and lived in Orlando, Florida. She died August 2, 1941.  A descendant, J. Harold Carter, in 1984 lived in Gainesville, Georgia.

 

Elbert Newton Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born August 18, 1880 in Macon County.  He was married about 1903 to Hattie Wilson of Belton, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of John A. Wilson and Lucy Horton Wilson and the granddaughter of John A. Horton of Anderson, South Carolina.  Elbert Newton Whitmire and Hattie Wilson Whitmire lived in Tampa, South Carolina.

Elbert Newton Whitmire, Jr., son of Elbert Newton Whitmire and Hattie Wilson Whitmire, was born about 1910.  In 1984 he lived in Athens, Georgia.

 

Clingman Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born September 29, 1882 in Rabun County.  He was married about 1905 to Mary Louise Carter, daughter of T. N. Carter of Westminster, South Carolina.  Clingman Whitmire and Mary Louise Carter Whitmire made their home in Westminster.  In 1984 a descendant, Betty Whitmire, lived in Orlando, Florida, and another, Louise Boone, lived in Erwington, Georgia.

 

Rufus Melvin Whitmire, son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born February 21, 1884 in Macon County.  He was married about 1908 to Bertha Garland.  Children born to Rufus Melvin Whitmire and Bertha Garland Whitmire are unknown.  A descendant, David Roy Whitmire, in 1984 lived in Port Lavaca, Texas.

 

Hannah Elizabeth Whitmire, daughter of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born January 18, 1886 in Macon County. She was married to Read Lemuel Rothell  of Toccoa, Georgia and was later remarried to Nathan G. Outzs of Greenwood, South Carolina.

Steven Alexander Whitmire son of John Columbus Whitmire and Jane Elizabeth Williams Whitmire, was born December 19, 1890 in Macon County.  He was married about 1910 to Jessie Hawkins.  Later he was remarried, wife's name Ester. In 1983 Ester Whitmire lived in Florida.  Children born to Steven Alexander Whitmire and Jessie Hawkins Whitmire are unknown.  Helen Burrell Howard, a descendant, in 1984 lived in Clayton, Georgia.  Mrs. Joe B. Ferguson, Whitley City, Kentucky, is also a descendant.

 

Mary Ann Morena Whitmire, daughter of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born June 20, 1848 in Rabun County.  She was married about 1870 to Albert Lovell, son of Jessie Lovell.  He died in 1905 and was buried at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  She died in 1940 at Toccoa, Georgia and was buried beside her husband.

 

William Stephen J. Whitmire, son of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born January 8, 1853.  He was married about 1888 to Sarah Dotson and was remarried to Lillie Addington.  He became a Baptist minister and a successful merchant.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Toccoa and assisted in the organization of Second Baptist Church of which he served as pastor, according to "History of Stephens County, Georgia."  In 1907 he was listed as owning a "livery stable worth $2,500."  Children born to Lillie Addington Whitmire are unknown.

 

One son was born to William Stephen J. Whitmire and Sarah Dotson Whitmire:

 

        James Bartow Whitmire           born in 1873

 

James Bartow Whitmire, only child of Stephen Whitmire and Sarah Dotson Whitmire, was born in 1873.  He was killed by stepping into an open elevator shaft in Atlanta in 1897 and was buried in Toccoa City Cemetery.

 

Rolin Logan Whitmire, son of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born May 23, 1856 in Rabun County.  He was married about 1880 to Martha J. Singleton and was remarried to Genovia Ramey.  He became a Baptist minister.  Children born to Rolin Logan Whitmire, Martha J. Singleton Whitmire and Genovia Ramey Whitmire are unknown.

 

Rachel Nancy Rosetta Whitmire, daughter of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born March 6, 1859 in Rabun County.  She was married January 23, 1876 to Levi Berryman Shirley, son of Berryman Shirley and Beersheba Jones Shirley.

 

Samuel Rufus Whitmire, son of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmire, was born May 26, 1861.  He was married about 1894 to Lucy Emaline Moss of Hart County, Georgia who was born June 5, 1875.  He died May 8, 1940, and she died January 11, 1941.

Lucy Whitmire, daughter of Samuel Rufus Whitmire and Lucy Emaline Moss Whitmire, was born August 12, 1907.  She was married about 1927 to Berry Floyd who became Rabun County School Superintendent.

 

Robert Adolphus Whitmire, son of William R. "Billy" Whitmire and Hannah McCurry Whitmir, was born January 23, 1864 in Rabun County.  He was married May 10, 1896 to Leila Manley who was born March 20, 1875.  Robert Adolphus Whitmire and Leila Manley Whitmire lived at Carnesville, Georgia.  She died April 17, 1960.

 

John Warren Whitmire, son of Stephen Whitmire and Mary Robertson Whitmire, was born June 16, 1829 in South Carolina, probably Oconee County. He was married in 1847 to Frances Victoria Gaine, daughter of William Jordan Gaines and Mary Ann Bell Gaines.  She was born April 30, 1833 in Rabun County, Georgia.  He became a Baptist minister.

 

He was enumerated October 7, 1850 as the head of Household 195-195 in the census of Rabun County, 597th District: 

 

        "Whitmire, John         21, born in South Carolina

                   Fanny             17, born in Georgia, wife

                   (infant)         3/12, born in Georgia, daughter"

 

The household of John Warren Whitmire was enumerated a second time in the 1850 census of Rabun County in 587th District, page 328.

 

He removed along with his brother Lewis Robert Whitmire to Arkansas.  She died in 1906 in Madison County, Arkansas, and he died there January 7, 1909.  She was buried in Burk Cemetery near Red Star, Arkansas, and he was buried nearby in Pinnacle Cemetery.

Rubin Layfiet Whitmire, son of John Warren Whitmire and Fannie Gaines Whitmire, was born March 1, 1855.  He was married October 3, 1871 to Harriet Louise Davenport daughter of Martin Davenport.  She was born in North Carolina January 2, 1849.  She died in 1896 and was buried in Pinnacle Cemetery in Madison County.  He was remarried April 10, 1897 to Cordelia Ashbrook Gardner.  He died November 20, 1913 and was buried in Pinnacle Cemetery. Cordelia Ashbrook Garder Whitmire died in Vallejo, California, according to Floy Allen Berry, 301 N. Aladdin Drive, Anaheim, California, 92801.

Margaret Melissa Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born in September 1879.  She was married about 1898 to Noah Jacob Stufflebeam.  Seven children were born to them.  She died in 1963 in Rabun County, Georgia.

 

William Jordan Whitmire, son of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born November 12, 1883 and died a few days later.

 

Lucinda Viana Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born May 16, 1886.  She was married about 1903 to Bill Hawkins.  Eight children were born to them.  In 1968 she lived in Oklahoma.

 

Parytine Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born February 8, 1889.  She was married about 1908 to Bill Stubb.  In 1968 she lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  She died in 1972.

 

Rindy Viola Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born February 9, 1891.  She was married about 1910 to Henry Nail.  In 1968 she lived in Maricopa, California.

 

Charity Marilda Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Harriett Louise Davenport Whitmire, was born July 4, 1893.  She was married about 1910 to Ora Alvin Massey.  Later she was remarried to Ernest Knull.  In 1968 she lived in Buena Park, California.

 

Beulah Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Cordelia Ashbrook Gardner, was born March 24, 1898 in Madison County, Arkansas.  She was married about 1916 to Rev. Henry Grubbs.  She died September 14, 1941.

 

Oma Lee Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Cordelia Ashbrook Gardner Whitmire , was born March 22, 1900.  She was married about 1918 to Dewey Collin Cox.  Two children were born to them.  In 1968 she lived in Oklahoma.

 

Frona Ester Whitmire, daughter of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Cordelia Ashbrook Gardner Whitmire, was born Novenber 4, 1901.  She was married about 1918 to Chloe Bivins.  One daughter, La Voyce Bivins, was born to them about 1920.

John Virgil Whitmire, son of Rubin Layfiet Whitmire and Cordelia Ashbrook Gardner Whitmire, was born December 1, 1910.  A daughter, Virginia Whitmire, was born to him about 1940.

 

John Lawson Whitmir, son of John Warren Whitmire  and Frances Victoria "Fannie" Gaines Whitmire, was born about 1851 in Rabun Co, Georgia.  He was married about 1874 to Tilda Coffey .  Children born to John Lawson Whitmire and Tilda Coffey Whitmire are unknown.

 

A infant was born to John Warren Whitmire and Frances Victoria "Fannie" Gaines Whitmire January 16, 1857.  It is believed that the child died in infancy.

 

Robert Christopher Whitmire, son of John Warren Whitmire and Frances Victoria "Fannie" Gaines Whitmire, was born February 14, 1860 in Rabun County.  He accompanied his brother in a move to Arkansas and was married there about 1877, wife's name Dora.  A second wife was named Angeline Whitmire, and his third was named Jane Whitmire.  He was buried in Pinnacle Cemetery in Madison County, Arkansas.

Josie Whitmire, daughter of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born about 1813.  She was married December 16, 1830 to Stephen Whitmire [unidentified], according to Jackson County, Georgia records.

 

Balona Whitmire, child of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born in 1814.

 

Pollina Whitmire, daughter of Samuel Whitmire and Polly Holcomb Whitmire, was born about 1817.

 

Christopher Whitmire, son of Michael Whitmire and Cathene Whitmire, was born about 1774 in Pendleton District.  He appeared as the head of Household 787 in the 1800 census of that district.

He is believed to be the "Christopher Whitmire" who purchased 158 acres "on the north fork of the Keowee River" from Stephen Whitmire August 25, 1802 as recorded in Oconee County, South Caroline Deed Book 9, page 672.  The deed was witnessed by "Samuel Whitmire," believed to be, another brother.

 

"Christopher Whitmire: was a witness to a deed dated October 23, 1802 conveying 150 acres from Thomas Robertson to Henry Whitmire, according to Pendleton District Deed Book G, page 252.

 

Christopher Whitmire received a deed, perhaps a confirmation deed, from Stephen Whitmire to 158 acres "on Cain Creek" December 16, 1808, according to Anderson County, South Carolina Deed Book 1, page 315.

 

William Whitmire, son of Michael Whitmire and Cathene Whitmire, was born about 1775 in Pendleton District.  He was married about 1799, wife's name Elizabeth.  He appeared in the 1800 census of that district as the head of Household 892:

He reappeared in the 1830 census of Pendleton County, South Carolina as:

In 1840 he was recorded as the head of a household in the census of Gilmer County, Georgia, according to Lynda Dorene Whitmire Wright.  The family was listed as:

                                            white male      10-15"

 

In October 1984 Lynda Dorene Whitmire Wright and Nancy Jane Hinkle Flesch located the will of William Whitmire in Gilmer County probate records.  The will lays to rest the question as to whether there was a Henry Whitmire, according to the letter of Lynda Dorene Whitmire Wright written October 25, 1984:

 

"It took us 15 years, but we finally have proof that what people have been saying was Henry, an original brother, is actually Henry, son of Michael.  This will belongs to William Whitmire, son of Michael.  He lived to be in his seventies and evidently outlived his children.  We have an earlier deed on him that mentions his son William Whitmire and his wife Elizabeth.  His son evidently died early and didn't leave any living children."

 

The will, written May 2, 1850 and recorded in Gilmer County Will Book 1850-1913, page 1, read:

 

"Georgia

 Gilmer County

 

May the 2nd 1850 Eighteen hundred and fifty whereas I, William Whitmire, of the State and County aforesaid am old and afflicted and believing that my departure is near at hand, and am now possessed of a sound mind and memory, I do publish in this my last will and testament after all my just debts are paid I do hereby will and bequeath the following property unto Elizabeth Whitmire (my wife) a certain negro woman named Lane and her two children, Emily and Lucy, and Mourning, a woman, also, also all the house furniture unto her Elizabeth Whitmire during her natural life at her death I will and bequeath the above named negroes to Daniel Whitmire and John Whitmire, both of the State of South Carolina, my brother Henery Whitmire's sons, also the house furniture I will to her to dispose as she pleases.  I do hereby publish and appoint in this my last will and testament John H. Johnson my lawful executor to exicute my will and the affairs of my business and remaining property consisting of a negro man named Allen, land and all the other property of diverse kinds, stock and He after me and to carry out the Injunction of this will and testament to bring to sale in a lawful manner all the property belonging to me save that which I have bequeathed to my wife in the above, and after all lawful claims against me are paid, the money remaining, if any, to [be] devided between my brothers and sisters in witness of the above I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above written, signed, sealed, and published in the presence of
