SOUTH PLAINS HEAD START MISSION STATEMENT

QUALITY means South Plains Head Start educating and serving disadvantaged children and families.

As a division of the South Plains Community Action Agency, South Plains Head Start's goals include:

o Positive community intervention programs improving the quality of life for socio-economically disadvantaged children and families.

o Providing educational opportunities for families to become more self- sufficient through the utilization of resource networks (e.g., job training, parent involvement, cultural diversity, development training, literacy).

HEAD START PHILOSOPHY

SPHS ensures Head Start children a healthy and cheerful individual learning environment. SPHS offers individual educational plans for Head Start children. Through an emphasis on play, the program offers an opportunity for the child to develop physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally. Special activities are planned for the child to function freely, explore and experiment in the early childhood environment to improve his learning.

The learning environment is a joyous, lively and fun loving place, maintaining an atmosphere of acceptance of each child, utilizing space, furniture, and equipment appropriate for the children. Learning experiences will take place in the center which facilitate individual and group interaction and home-based curriculum activities.

QUALITY is the key to all SPHS activities and experiences. The SPHS staff will represent well trained, highly competent individuals dedicated to the service mission statement "QUALITY means South Plains head Start educating and serving underprivileged children and families."

o To enable children and families to reach their fullest potential, to become self-sufficient, and socially competent.

o Committed to QUALITY service through collaborative efforts with valued multi-funding sources, and professional staff within three (3) to five (5) years.
