Requirements for Eligibility and Financial Guidelines: None for the general public, subsidized passengers must qualify under eligibility and financial guidelines of agency or program that will subsidize the transportation.

Intake Procedure: Transportation requests are taken at each Multi-Service Center or requests can be made to central dispatch at 1-800-462-8747.

Required Documents: None to ride. (For subsidized passengers, the required documentation from the program subsidizing the fare)

Fee Structure: $2.00 for trips within the city limits. Out of town trips are based on distance between cities

History with SPCAA: The Community Action Transportation until 1980 was restricted to program recipients. SPARTAN started in 1980 as an adjacent to the transportation which had been provided by SPCAA since 1964. A number of persons which qualify for subsidized transportation are mobility impaired, therefore this system began utilizes wheelchair equipped vans.

Other Comments: The goal of Rural Public Transportation at SPCAA is: to provide the general public in our non-urbanized area, access to public services, employment, education, shopping, recreation and health care. Primarily, the system will be targeted toward transportation of disadvantaged individuals.

SPARTAN - SCHEDULED TRANSPORTATION BY COUNTY

BOARDING PROCEDURES:

(1) SPARTAN asks all passengers to be ready at least 20

minutes before appointed pick up time.

(2) Drivers will arrive within 15 minutes before or after scheduled pick up time.

(3) When driver arrives, the driver will honk the horn 3 times, 2 minutes apart.

(4) After the third time, the driver will wait one more minute.

(5) If there is no response (if no passenger comes) the driver

will then depart (leave).

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

All vehicles will have a driver's assistant on board to assist passengers on and off the vehicle when the person is handicapped or requests assistance. All SPARTAN drivers are certified in passenger assistance techniques, First Aid and CPR. All wheelchair passengers and those requiring special handling techniques, must make arrangements for assistance to and from vehicle entrances.

NO SMOKING

For the comfort of all passengers, SPARTAN policy prohibits smoking on vehicles at any time. Should a passenger desire to smoke, with the agreement of all other passengers, the driver will stop and provide the passenger with a 5 minute stop to allow the passenger to smoke outside the vehicle.

CHILDREN

No children will be carried on the passenger's lap. They must either be restrained with a seat belt or be placed in a child safety seat. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

PACKAGES

Passengers will be allowed no more than two (2) shopping bags. Drivers will place them behind the last seat of the vehicle. At no time will open containers of liquids or food be allowed in the vehicle.

Application: Before client makes plans to travel out of town, do these things:

(1) check the schedules (see schedules other places in this write up) to see what days SPARTAN does Out of Area travel.

(2) Check the map (see map at end of this write-up) to make sure that the town you want to visit is in the SPARTAN service area.

(3) Call the local county center or 1-800-462-8747 at least 24 hours in advance to reserve a seat.

NOTE: Passengers who need to travel the next working day must have made a reservation no later than 3:00 PM on the previous day (the day before).

Fee: Fares - Trips between point to point will be charged a fare as published by SPARTAN.

Subsidized Fares - If a client qualifies for one of the Federal Programs, you may qualify for partial or fully paid ticket.
